Minnesota’s Phoenix: From the Ashes of Braniff to Sun Country Airlines
Sun Country Airlines was founded over 43 years ago by a group of Minneapolis-based pilots and flight attendants left jobless by Braniff International's sudden bankruptcy in 1982. A new book documenting the extraordinary origin story of Minnesota's "hometown airline", entitled Minnesota's Phoenix: From the Ashes of Braniff to Sun Country Airlines, is now available for order at bookstores or on Amazon.
The book draws on oral histories from the founders and original employees, weaving first-person accounts into a cohesive timeline spanning Sun Country's scrappy beginnings, charter heyday, near-collapses, and unlikely survival in one of the most volatile industries in America.
Minnesota’s Phoenix is a collaboration between Karyn Fernandes, a long time Sun Country employee, original Sun Country flight attendant Maggie Hill and current flight attendant Jennifer Kimball Gasperini.
